Andrea "Sid" Curtis

Sid was literally born into theatre, her father was a magician, her mother was a costumer and they both participated in amateur theatre. Sid made her stage debut at the age of nine months (as a prop) and has never left the business. She spent her childhood learning all aspects of theatre, costuming, make up, props, scenic, lighting and stage management. At thirteen she joined up with a college student to create Story Hour, a traveling puppet act that visited rural Louisiana libraries to promote reading.

Sid’s diverse career has included positions as House Lighting Designer for The McCallum Theatre in Palm Desert California where she designed lights for such legends as Cab Calloway, Sarah Vaughan and Ella Fitzgerald; House Lighting Designer for The Bottom Line in Greenwich Village and touring Lighting Designer / Director for various acts from Public Enemy to Laurie Anderson to Lou Reed.

In the late 90’s, Sid was hired to develop an in-house Art Department for MTV’s new flagship studio in Times Square. For many years Sid designed the majority of the sets for studio productions as well as maintaining the studio’s appearance and developing strange props on a daily basis.

In 2005 she co-founded Simba Share, Inc. - a non-profit organization dedicated to documenting culturally, environmentally and socially impactful events to raise awareness through the media.
